When Coloring Became Her Lifeline
The Perfect Life That Wasn’t
On the outside, Maya had it all.
A dream job with six-figure pay. Solo trips to dream destinations. A closet that looked like it belonged in a magazine.
Everyone around her assumed she was living her best life. But behind the curated smile, she was running on fumes. She said yes to everyone, carried the weight of other people’s problems, and watched them flourish while she silently unraveled.
The Breaking Point
Then life started to crumble.
A relationship ended with more betrayal than closure. A major work opportunity was ripped away. Family tension pushed her to her limit. And in the middle of it all, she realized her entire life had been built around other people’s expectations.
So she stopped. She ghosted the meetings, the social gatherings, and the endless demands.
That day she made a decision.
“Forget the money. Forget the applause. Forget the people who only show up to control what they did not create.”
Finding Peace in the Pages
One rainy afternoon, while cleaning out a drawer, she found an old coloring book. She sat at the table, grabbed a handful of markers, and started filling in the shapes.
At first, it was just a distraction. Then she noticed her breathing had slowed. Her shoulders had dropped. The noise in her head had quieted.
Page after page, she felt a strange sense of release.
When God Shows Up in the Smallest Things
Somewhere between the colors and the quiet, she started to pray. Short, honest prayers at first. Then longer conversations.
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28
She realized this was not just about coloring. It was about God meeting her in the stillness.
From Healing to Mission
Over the weeks, coloring became her safe place. The place she cried. The place she laughed. The place she let God work in her heart.
Then one afternoon, flipping through a fresh pack of markers, she felt it, that gentle nudge.
What if you could give this to other women? What if you could create a space where they could color, breathe, and heal together?
Proverbs 31:25 came to mind:
“She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.”
That is what she wanted for other women. To breathe again. To laugh again. To feel strong again.
The Lesson She Learned
God does not waste pain. He can take even the smallest thing, like a coloring book, and turn it into a tool for healing.
If you are in your own “sack of rocks” season, remember:
-
God sees you (Psalm 34:18)
 -
Your peace is worth more than their approval
 -
Healing may come in unexpected ways
